  • Is Áskot far away from the ring road nr. 1?

    Áskot is only 7 km from the ring Road nr. 1. The road is nr. 275 and is paved all the way.

  • Do you see animals in Áskot?

    You can see horses, dogs, cats, goats or sheep wandering around the property.

    Sometimes the horses are close by the cottages and sometimes farther away. 


  • Can you meet horses in Áskot?

    You can always contact us and we can arrange a meeting with the horses.

  • How many cottages are in Áskot?

    There are 6 cottages on the property.

  • Are all the cottages the same?

    All the cottages are almost the same with one cottage having a more wheelchair accessible bathroom.

  • Are children welcome in Áskot?

    Children of all ages are welcome in Áskot.

  • Is there a reception on site?

    There is not an on-site reception, but we live next door so if there is anything just let us know.

  • How many people can stay in one cottage?

    Up to three adults can stay in the cottage or a couple with up to 2 children.

  • Can you cook meals in the cottages?

    You can cook simple meals in the cottage kitchen. It is equiped with one stove, a microwave owen with grill, a toaster and all the cutlery you need, as well as salt, pepper, sugar, oil, coffee and tea.

  • Is there a coffee maker and a kettle?

    Yes, there is a nespresso machine, a kettle and supplementary coffee and tea.

  • How are the cottages heated up?

    The cottages are heatad by geothermal sources, like most of Icelandic housing.

  • How big are the cottages?

    The cottages are 32 squere meters and designed to fit 2-3 persons comfortably. They are comfy but small enough not to waste too much energy.

  • Is there a charging station for electric vehicles (EVs)??

    Each cottages has it own charging station for EVs , free of charge for guests.

  • Is there a washing machine in the cottages?

    Every cottage has its own washing and dryer combo machine and guide to use it.

  • Do I need to buy washing detergent?

    No, washing detergent is provided and can be found under the sink in your cottage for your convenience.

  • Is there a free parking?

    There is dedicated parking next to each cottage, which is a perk in cold winter weather. There is also a charger for electric veihicles by each cottage.

  • Do the cottages have darkening curtains?

    Yes, all of our cottages are equipped with darkening curtains to help you sleep comfortably, which is especially important during Iceland’s bright summer nights.

  • What is the kitchen equipped with?

    The kitchen is compact, but fully equipped with a dishwasher, stove, microvawe/grill oven, fridge, nespresso machine, kettle, toaster, pots and pan, cutlery, dishes - all you need for cooking.

  • What is the bathroom like?

    The bathroom has a walk-in shower and soaps, shampoo and conditioner. You can find a blowdryer under the sink and warm towels on the towel warmer.

  • What size is the bed?

    The bed is king size double bed with fine linnen and four pillows.

  • How is the sleeping sofa?

    Our italian made sleeping sofa foldes out to a double bed matress.

  • Is the hammock chair in all cottages?

    All the cottages have a hammock chair for relaxing.

  • When do I get arrival information?

    All guest should get arrival email with information, cottage number and keycode for a keybox, at least 24 hours before arrival.

  • How can I enter the cottage?

    When you have recieved the code to the external keybox you can open it and find a key to the cottage.

  • I can't lock the door?

    You have to lift the handle to be able to lock the door to the cottage, both inside and outside.

    It is a 3 point lock system which is neccesery to lock properly in bad weathers.


  • Are the roads to the cottages passable during winter?

    The main roads leading to our cottages are typically kept clear throughout the winter, as they are essential routes. However, winter driving in Iceland can be unpredictable due to snow, ice, and sudden weather changes.

    We live next door to the cottages and can be at help if there are any problems.


  • Can you see the northern ligts in Áskot?

    Winter is an excellent time to view the Northern Lights. Our location, away from the city lights, gives you a better chance of seeing them on clear nights.

  • Where is the nearest grocery store?

    Nearest grocary store is in Hella 15 minutes away, then you find several good grocary stores in Selfoss, 27 minutes away.

  • What is summer like in Áskot?

    You are in the middle of a rural area. Farmers are taking care of their lifestock, gathering hay, training horses, fixing fenches. Áskot is in one of the southest part of Iceland which means the spring is first there and the winters are lighter.

  • What is winter like in Áskot?

    In winter the life stocks are mostly inside. You can see horsemen train their horses outside. There is a lot less traffic and the weather can give you many different scene per day. The nature and the scenary takes many different forms. There is impossible to make long time essesment on how the weather is going to be.
