Is Áskot far away from the ring road nr. 1?
Áskot is only 7 km from Ring Road No. 1. The road to the property is Road No. 275, and it is paved all the way.
Do you see animals in Áskot?
You may see horses, dogs, cats, goats, and sheep wandering around the property. Sometimes the horses are close to the cottages, and sometimes they are farther away.
Can you meet horses in Áskot?
You can always contact us, and we can arrange a meeting with the horses.
How many cottages are at Áskot?
There are six cottages on the property.
Are all the cottages the same?
All the cottages are almost the same, but one cottage has a more wheelchair-accessible bathroom.
Are children welcome at Áskot?
Children of all ages are welcome at Áskot.
Is there a reception on site?
There is no on-site reception, but we live next door, so if you need anything, just let us know.
How many people can stay in one cottage?
Up to three adults can stay in a cottage, or two adults with up to two children.
Can you cook meals in the cottages?
You can cook simple meals in the cottage kitchen. It is equipped with a stove, a microwave oven with grill function, a toaster, and all the cutlery you need, as well as salt, pepper, sugar, oil, coffee, and tea.
Is there a coffee maker and a kettle?
Yes, there is a Nespresso machine, a kettle, and complimentary coffee and tea.
How are the cottages heated?
The cottages are heated with geothermal energy, like most homes in Iceland.
How big are the cottages?
The cottages are 32 square meters and are designed to accommodate 2–3 people comfortably. They are cozy, yet compact enough not to waste too much energy.
Is there a charging station for electric vehicles (EVs)?
Each cottage has its own EV charging station, free of charge for guests.
Is there a washing machine in the cottages?
Every cottage has its own washer-dryer combo and instructions for how to use it.
Do I need to buy washing detergent?
No, washing detergent is provided and can be found under the sink in your cottage for your convenience.
Is there a free parking?
There is dedicated parking next to each cottage, which is especially convenient during cold winter weather. There is also an electric vehicle charger by each cottage.
Do the cottages have blackout curtains?
Yes, all of our cottages are equipped with blackout curtains to help you sleep comfortably, which is especially important during Iceland’s bright summer nights.
What is the kitchen equipped with?
The kitchen is compact but fully equipped with a dishwasher, stove, microwave/grill oven, fridge, Nespresso machine, kettle, toaster, pots and pans, cutlery, and dishes - everything you need for cooking.
What is the bathroom like?
The bathroom has a walk-in shower, as well as soap, shampoo, and conditioner. You can find a hairdryer under the sink, and warm towels on the towel warmer.
What size is the bed?
The bed is a king-size double bed with fine linen and four pillows.
How is the sofa bed?
Our Italian-made sofa bed folds out into a double mattress.
Is the hammock chair in all cottages?
All the cottages have a cozy hammock chair for relaxing.
When do I get arrival information?
All guests should receive an arrival email with information, the cottage number, and the key code for the key box at least 24 hours before arrival.
How can I enter the cottage?
Once you have received the code for the external key box, you can open it and find the key to the cottage.
I can’t lock the door?
You need to lift the handle in order to lock the cottage door, both from the inside and the outside. It is a three-point locking system, which is necessary for secure locking in bad weather.
Are the roads to the cottages passable during winter?
The main roads leading to our cottages are typically kept clear throughout the winter, as they are important routes. However, winter driving in Iceland can be unpredictable due to snow, ice, and sudden weather changes. We live next door to the cottages and can help if any problems arise.
Can you see the Northern Lights in Áskot?
Winter is an excellent time to view the Northern Lights. Our location, away from city lights, gives you a better chance of seeing them on clear nights.
Where is the nearest grocery store?
The nearest grocery store is in Hella, about 15 minutes away. You will also find several good grocery stores in Selfoss, about 27 minutes away.
What is summer like in Áskot?
Áskot is located in the middle of a rural area. During the summer, farmers are taking care of their livestock, gathering hay, training horses, and fixing fences. Áskot is in one of the southernmost parts of Iceland, which means spring arrives earlier there and winters are generally milder.
What is winter like in Áskot?
In winter, the livestock are mostly kept indoors. You may still see riders training their horses outside. It is impossible to make a long-term assessment of what the weather will be like, so dress warm, just in case. There is less traffic, and the weather can change the landscape many times in a single day. On clear winter nights you might even see Northern lights.
